We are active in a lot of sports and trading card forums and Facebook groups. By far one of the most common questions we see asked is “how do I look up the value of sports and trading cards? “
Long gone are the days when monthly Beckett magazines would be the collector’s go-to. Like most things, the process has gone digital so we put together this guide to help.
This is the card we will be using as an example to find the value and the most recent sales price have been. Before you look up a card you will need to know a few things:
1. Year the card was produced
2. The brand of the card
3. Player Name
4. Any other pertinent information. This may include the name of the insert or parallel series, or serial number (if applicable)
The pictured card is a 2021 Score Trevor Lawrence Hot Rookie Insert and will serve as our example.
130Point.com
130Point.com is an incredible resource. It pulls data from the most recent sales to help assign a value. Most of this data comes from eBay. This site works well on both desktop and mobile and is very straightforward.
- Enter the description of the card. As mentioned above, we will be using the term “2021 Score Trevor Lawrence Hot Rookie”.
- Click the Submit button.
As you can see above, recent sales results are displayed including the date sold. You may have noticed that most of the sales are in a similar range with the exception of results 2 and 3. Those are numbered parallel versions of the same card and not the same as we are searching for.
Over the past month, the range of recent sales is $2.49 to $3.25. These sales set what is referred to as “comps” within the industry and give sellers a solid idea of what buyers are willing to pay.
If the card you are searching for is serial numbered or autographed adding those terms to the search will help narrow down results and result in a more accurate search.
