When it comes to our collections it is easy to be wary and daunting when it comes to parting with them. However, a lot of us have gotten to the point where there is a need to thin out the herd. Let’s be honest…. as collectors it may come to the point where some cards have to go in order to make room for new acquisitions. But at the same time, we want to understand what we are getting into so understanding the Pros and Cons of selling on eBay is only natural. Here are some of the pros and cons of selling cards I have learned over the past couple of years.
The Pros
- eBay is one of the world’s largest marketplace. In fact, it is the second just behind Amazon. Listing your cards on eBay gives sellers the opportunity to showcase their offerings to millions of millions of prospective buyers all over the globe.
- When it comes to sports and trading cards it is one of the most active places to connect with a buyer. Due to the sheer volume of members, as referenced above, it can be pretty easy to make a sale.
- You can find a buyer for almost anything… seriously. There are active collectors on eBay that fit any niche. Some examples are buyers looking for specific serial numbers on cards, little-known players, and those who personally collect players convicted of crimes.
The Cons
- eBay is not among the cheapest marketplaces. The average fees range from 12-to 15%. Fees vary based upon item category, final sale price, and whether you choose to promote your item.
- eBay is rather a pro buyer market. Most of their policies lean in favor of buyers. We don’t mention this to dissuade you from selling there. However, you need to educate yourself to ensure your experience is positive.
- Non-payers are a serious issue. There are few things more frustrating for sellers than buyers who don’t pay. However, you can update your account settings to help minimize this annoying occurrence.
We hope the above helps outline some of the basic pros and cons of selling cards on eBay. Have anything to add? Feel free to drop us a comment below!
